Co-founder and CEO, YGAP
Elliot Costello’s life was influenced from a young age by his father Tim Costello, the highly regarded Baptist minister, lawyer and current CEO of World Vision Australia. Their home was often opened to the socially disadvantaged clients his father regularly looked after. It was therefore natural for Elliot to seek volunteer work in developing nations in between studying for a Bachelor of Arts/Commerce at Deakin University and later a Masters of International Development from the University of Melbourne. Elliot’s lifelong belief in the importance of community informs his work today as co-founder and CEO of YGAP, a non-profit organisation that strives to end poverty through community engagement. Creative fundraising projects associated with YGAP include Kinfolk and Feast of Merit – a volunteer-run social enterprise café and restaurant in Melbourne; and its ongoing 5-cent campaign, asking people to donate their coins to fund education and food programs in Australia, Africa and Asia. Costello and his team are striving to create a new generation of young social entrepreneurs, locally and abroad, to continue raising awareness of, and much needed funds for, communities disadvantaged by poverty.
