Australian architect wins in London
London, UK - July 2012
As part of the London Festival of Architecture, Australian Architect
Andrew Burns and British landscape designer, Sarah Eberle were appointed
by The Architecture Foundation, Team London Bridge and Southwark
Council to transform a currently under used cut through between Magdalen
and Bermondsey Streets in London SE1.
Australia Unlimited proudly
supported the public lecture that launched the space on Sunday 24 June
2012 as part of the London Festival of Architecture 2012. Andrew Burns
and Sarah Eberle spoke of their inspiration behind their design concept
and this was then followed by the official opening. The project aims to
raise awareness of this forgotten piece of Southwark and to contribute
to the longer-term social and economic improvement of the area.
looks to actively encourage community participation asking local
businesses and residents to contribute potted plants to the garden
allowing it to grow and evolve, taking on a life of its own past its
official launch this summer.
